June & July 2026 Music Stats

There is truly so little to say about my listening statistics over the past two months other than Olivia Rodrigo absolutely knocked it out of the park with her latest album, You Seem Pretty Sad For A Girl So In Love.

Normally the header image is the collage of my month's listens, but based on how the statistics are it felt right to just make it her cover art. Plus this post is basically a review of the album. But I still wanted to include the collages so below are the collages for June and July.

I will include all my regular statistic charts but I think my Top 10 list for July 2026 says it all:

Every track in the top 10s, except for the #1 (which I do have an explanation for), is off Olivia's album. Labour by Paris Paloma only managed to crack the top spot for two reasons. It started because I saw a viral video of a high school all-girls choir perform the song and combine it with a traditional Haka of the Maori peoples. That performance was so great it reminded me how great the song itself is, and the version that I have downloaded is the single version so when I play it the song will often play on repeat for 3 or 4 times before I realize and choose something else. Still very deserving of the #1 spot because its a great song, but that is how it managed to get past my Olivia obsession this month.

My top tracks list do successfully identify my favourite two tracks off the album, maggots for brains and expectations. The absolute emotional shock of going from less to expectations and right back into sad mode to finish off the album with cigarette smoke is part of what makes expectations stand out to me, but something about the beat and rock-adjacent sound to it scratches my ears just right. With maggots for brains I also really like the sound of it, but the message of losing part of yourself in a relationship to the point where you are almost wishing you'd get sick for an excuse to spend more time together really resonated.

Based off how she was introduced to the world with the success of her songs in the Disney+ series, High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, and the success of her first two albums it certainly isn't a surprise to me that she delivered an amazing third album. Many songs from SOUR and GUTS are still in my regular rotation. I think this album just proves to me that she brings a kind of intentional effort to the music she makes where she isn't in it just because she happens to have a killer voice. It really feels like she puts a lot of care into the music she puts out and doesn't just want to make money or reach new levels of fame and success.

All that being said, here's the rest of my listening statistics for June and July.

This heat map of the hours I usually listen does show one thing that I think is funny. It has clearly caught the time that I almost always take my break on my Sunday night shift, from 5AM to 6AM.

This chart shows that by mid-June I really was listening to Olivia Rodrigo almost exclusively.

Going into July, not much changed if I'm being honest. I still am obsessed with the album, but I've also made myself a new playlist and am trying to not overplay the album so that I never reach a point where I'm tired of it.

The listening activity bar chart shows I had a lot more listens in June because any chance I had I was definitely playing Olivia's album again, whereas I've gone back to some of my other hobbies like reading in the last few weeks of July.

You Seem Pretty Sad For A Girl So In Love still has a chokehold on my top 10s, but I was enjoying IN A DREAM by Troye Sivan for a few weeks so it managed to get into the 10th spot.

My designated break time on Sundays is still showing super clear in July.

Both artist charts confirm the Olivia Rodrigo obsession. I think I played more songs by her than songs I listened to by every other artist combined. Its hard to say for sure because this just shows the Top 10 artists and there could be lots of artists I only listened to a handful of times, but its certainly a close call.

I never know what to make of my genre activity because so much of how songs or albums get classified into genres is up for debate if you ask me, but the only time of day where the electronic genre seems to show up in my listening is between noon and 6pm, so I guess that makes sense? Otherwise it's all the same genres.

The above chart shows the current standings in my Top 10 lists as of posting (July 30, 2026 around 6PM). The obvious change is Olivia Rodrigo jumping to #3 in my top 10 artists, and her latest album claiming the #2 spot in my album ranking right away.

I am somewhat surprised that none of her songs cracked the top 10, but she is contending with several months of Heated Rivalry soundtrack obsession - and just the fact that I've been using this for a year which is a lot of listens to overcome in just 2 months – so it does make sense at the end of the day.
