White Supremacists in Canada
Did you know that there is a growing community in Canada that openly identify as Nazis? These people proudly hold meetings and combat training to achieve their goals of turning Canada into a country for white people. Sadly, this is not an exaggeration, they use the words "Nazi" and "white supremacist" to describe themselves in their own biographies and social media accounts.
You probably haven’t heard much, because the issue has been unfolding quietly over the past few years with very little coverage on it - especially because when journalists do try to cover these people they are intimidated and threatened: https://thetyee.ca/Opinion/2025/09/15/Dangerous-Targeting-Canadian-Journalist/.
The latest story was published in The Tyee, a great local newspaper based in B.C., and the author is Rachel Gilmore – a Canadian journalist dedicated to covering fascism and how it is becoming more prominent in Canada. She reported on how she uncovered a group of men running a fight club who pose with Nazi flags while training for their “whites only” takeover.

Last year, CBC put together a great website with what information they could gather about the rising prevalence of white nationalist fight clubs or "active clubs": https://www.cbc.ca/newsinteractives/features/fascist-fight-club
There are several other big stories that have come out in recent years that show how the issue of right-wing extremism is spreading much faster than anyone would believe.

I think it is super important to know about this kind of stuff because then we can’t be caught off guard by it if we ever do encounter it in our own lives. I don’t think there are any obvious action items for people to take, but I’m sure that these groups have all sorts of deceptive recruitment tactics where they won’t tell you the real reason of their group until you’re in too deep. Being aware and alert to the threat is more important than ever.
With the world sliding further and faster into what I’m more and more certain historians will consider World War III, I think it is really important to remember that everyone thinks they are safe until the day men with guns are breaking down your own front door.
I spent years in elementary and high school studying the Holocaust and World War II through media like the Diary of Anne Frank, the Boy in the Striped Pajamas, and Schindler’s List. We studied fascism and how it manifests through stories like Animal Farm, 1984, and even modern media like The Hunger Games.
All of the warning signs that we learned about from this fictional media is playing out today in our real news media. No one can ever say for certain that it will lead to the same place as it did the last time, but I think it’s better to be safe and keep informed instead of dismissing it and being caught unaware later on.
